A message from Board Members November 22nd, 2009
Hello, Primetimers’ Members,
Anybody ever read Charles Dickens? “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…”. Whenever there are changes in a young organization, there are bound a little questioning and some anxiety among its members. As we all know, there have been some changes in Primetimers’ board; however, there’s no cause for concern. The good work which has already begun will continue and grow to become even better.
Our board met Friday evening, November 20th, to assess our current circumstances and find new approaches to making Primetimers a stronger and more inclusive group. It was an easy-going meeting, lots got accomplished, and we got to know each other better through finding new energy looking toward the future. All of the members of the board are committed to making the focus on you, the members, and the gay community at large.
Good changes are about to come!
The Primetimers’ website has gone “big time”. We have our own domain and it’s ours and ours, alone. Primetimers owns it and it’s going to be someplace where we can get information, exchange information, share with each other through chat, and raise issues of individual or group concern. Now, not only do we have 60 individual members, we have an e-center to help bring us together.
Everything is going to be available right here!
Sign up, sign in, and begin enjoying.
Several new initiatives are afoot and we want to share them with you at the next General Meeting and Brunch on December 13, 12PM at Headhunters. We need to get your input and ideas for making Primetimers a better organization. It’s not just about bacon and eggs. :) You guys and your desires are what are important. As a group, all of us will make this work. Let’s generate some enthusiasm and move onward.
Please come and help us!
Primetimers is going to be stronger and more vital than ever. Every member of the board promises his commitment, strength and energy. Primetimers is not going away! We’re just re-energizing. Hopefully, every member of Primetimers promises the same commitment, strength and energy.
It’s gonna be cool, stay and play! Be good (or at least enjoy!). ;)
The Board,
Gary Ferderer, Jim Joseph, John Walker, Ray Dean Block and Dave Philipson

Prime Timers Sacramento History
Prime Timers Sacramento’s first meeting was held May 3rd 2009. Twenty-two guys showed up at the Gay and Lesbian Center the 12th to hear me speak about Prime Timers. On May 12th, 2009, Ralph Goodall, Jim Joseph, Jerry Barnes, Jess Adams, Gary Ferderer, Carl Cronn and Dennis Wiegle met to form the original board. Jess declined to be on the board. The first actual meeting of Prime Timers Sacramento was June 7th, 2009. At that time, the board was voted in and the by-laws were accepted. Our Website was created by Ray Dean Block, 09/27/09 Prior to our website, there were no Home, Member profile, Photo gallery, Member information, Calendar, Profile, Bylaws or Sacramento history pages. Before all of that, communication was by a program, Evite, sent by email.

Someone's special thoughts
When we were in our twenties, we toyed with the idea of being married someday, nurturing a baby that became a toddler who took our breath away and then incessantly arguing with a teen who took our car away. Then when marriage didn’t happen and we were well past the age of childbirth, we didn’t feel a tinge of regret at all. The truth was we were secretly ecstatic that marriage somehow missed us. Something else happened. When we hit our mid 30s, we wanted only true friendships, friendships that were durable. It was the kind that endured because no commitment was involved, implicit or explicit. It is what we would call a comfortable friendship, the kind you’d compare to a warm cup of cocoa on a cold winter morning. There we were in our mid 30’s, wishing only for a one kind special friendship, with someone gay.

A True Christmas Story, Feliz Navidad 1996
We have bought our Christmas trees from Anthony for so long that he waits on us himself. When I requested a Blue Noble, he pointed to one on the ground and asked his assistant to open it. As the young man spread the branches he exclaimed, "Mira, no mas, hay una rana de Oregon! (Look at this; it's a tree frog from Oregon!) Understanding, I inquired fearfully, "Es vivo?" (Is it alive?). "Claro que no, no es posible!" (Of course not, it's not possible.) Then the little frog leapt into my hand and I proudly asserted, "That's my tree and that's my frog." Stan and I didn't bother looking at the tree, however, it turned out to be perfect for our room and the most beautiful we have ever had, standing strong and healthy still after the new year. As for the frog, we named him Feliz Navidad. He quacked like a duck, causing Boo, the bird, to squawk like the frog and Bounce and Bubble to bark like the dogs they are. The atmosphere and sound effects in the kitchen were sonorous to a degree. He could change color at the blink of an eye. Some of you know I collect frogs. When Feliz joined our family, I had 145 frog things. Our single living frog stayed in a large, round, terrarium, where he loved to climb as close to the top as possible before falling to the pebbles below. His belly formed a HEART as he HUGGED the sides of his crystal home. Come to think of it, isn't that what the holidays are all about?
P.S. Born free, after five months of dining on live crickets, Feliz disappeared from his bowl as mysteriously as he had appeared to us in the Christmas tree. Either he's hopping around Hope Ranch looking for Felicia or he's gone to the great lily pad in the sky. But one thing is certain; his magical Holiday story will never die.
